If you set a password during boot up or before entering the BIOS. Remove the battery up to 5 to 10 minutes then return it again.
The use of the battery is to save the settings of your hardware and maintain its hardware configuration including the computer clock even it is power off.
The battery inside works for a long period of time because it charge itself when the computer is power on.
